Hello, everyone! For those of you who don’t know, my name is Jacob Turner. I’m a junior at Hendrix College, a Religious Studies major and Computer Science minor, and a practicing United Methodist. That last point helps to connect right to the point of what this blog is about: starting Tuesday, I will be interning with the Mountain Sky Area of the United Methodist Church.
Now, if that intro sounded familiar to you at all, that may be because I did an internship with the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church’s Center for Technology last summer, and blogged about it as well (you can find an archived copy of those posts here). I thoroughly enjoyed that experience, and now I have the amazing opportunity to work in the Denver area doing both similar and different work in a very different ministry context.
One part of this blog will be dedicated to my work with the Mountain Sky Area staff, as I intern with their Communications staff in producing written, audio, and video content for their website among other outlets. However, I will also be working with a Denver area church in supporting their ministries as a part of my call to be a Deacon in the United Methodist Church. This blog will also have reflections that I will be writing as a part of the project overall. Basically, there will probably always be something new when you visit!
A special thanks goes out to the following people and organizations for making this all happen:
- Charmaine Robledo, Director of Communications for the Mountain Sky Area, for the internship opportunity
- Rev. J.J. Whitney, Chaplain of Hendrix College, who is serving as my advisor and mentor for this experience
- Hendrix College Miller Center for Vocation, Ethics, and Calling, and the John S. Workman family, for their financial support
I look forward to sharing my experiences with the world!
Jacob
